Pensacola
Pensacola is a pretty town at the western end of Florida which already looks very close to Louisiana. Like St. Augustine, it claims the title of oldest city in the United States.
WHAT TO DO IN PENSACOLA ?
At first, visit the old town : the kiosk, its fountains, its pretty wooden houses and Victorian colonial houses with wrought iron balconies and small flower gardens, the old lamps… We only miss a carriage pulled by horses and a robe to believe we are in the 18 – 19th century !
After visiting the city, sit on Santa Rosa Island ( Pensacola Beach) where you will find a beautiful beach almost deserted white sand and turquoise water. A true piece of paradise.
Also make ??a trip to Fort Pickens. It was built by slaves, began in 1829 and was not completed until 5 years later. The fort served without interruption despite the fires and other landslides until 1947. It was then converted into a hospital and in prison and hosted the famous prisoner Geronimo.
THE NIGHTLIFE IN PENSACOLA
In the evening, head to the district of Seville, a building that is home to many bars with a deep Western U.S. atmosphere ! We had a drink at Rosie O’Grady’s, a bar whith pianists and waitresses dancing on the piano! Atmosphere was awesome !
