An unforgettable experience for us: rafting in Kitulgala on the river where the movie “The Bridge on the River Kwai” was filmed! Do not hesitate to put it on your itinerary. It’s refreshing, has great views and above all, is very fun! The crew that accompanied us was awesome, they take pictures of you doing rafting, they make you jump from a rock, they make you fall in the water … well, they do everything so that you spend an unforgettable time! Honestly, we’ve done rafting in other places (France, Eastern Europe, Thailand), but here it was way better just because it was just for us and the team really spends some good time with you.

WHAT RAFTING COMPANY CHOOSE in Kitulgala?

We did rafting with the company which is situated next to the only one Kitulgala Home Stay, which we strongly recommend as explained above! The experience lasts about 3 hours, and you can negotiate up to 2000 Rs (we were with a local, but all by itself it pays Rs 900). The online prices are much more expensive, 35 USD.

HOW TO GO to Kitulgala?

We made a day trip to Kitulgala from Nuwara Eliya. The trip lasted about 5 hours by bus but that’s because they were rebuilding the road at the time. This should normally take about 2-3 hours. It’s mountain paths so it can give a little cold feet. You can also get there from Colombo in about 3-4 hours.

There are great views on the way: we stopped to see the cascade of “Devon Falls” which dovetails sumptuously in the valley, and the St. Clairs which is not very far.
